Individual study Plan (ISP)
The following documents highlight the educational courses that I have taken during the two years that I've been in CEP. My Individual Study Plan (ISP) document (link provided below) provides a course and reflection description of every class that I have taken at the University of Washington including CEP. The ISP course worksheet simply summarizes the courses that I have taken every quarter and the number of credits I have received.
INTERNSHIP
For my internship, I was an Equity and Environment Initiative (EEI) intern for the Office of Sustainability and Environment (OSE). During my time at EEI I worked on a long-range research project that involved examining the leadership structures, models, and strategies of advisory committees meant to serve and inform ways the Environmental Justice Committee (EJC) could evolve and develop new approaches to community leadership in government. The final document that I produced illustrated different models and potential opportunities as well as questions for future research exploration. The document was not meant to recommend or establish processes for commissions or advisory boards, rather it's meant to be used as an informal or reference tool for the Environmental Justice Committee or interested individuals to review the different commission leadership structures, models and strategies. Additionally, at OSE I had the opportunity to co-facilitated community engagement activities by attending community events in South Seattle to inform community members of EEI's work and learn from community members their concerns and suggestions for OSE. The image on the top right is a memory of Shaunice (other EEI intern) and I posing during our first week at OSE.
Interning for the EEI team at OSE was a great experience but it made realize how much I missed engaging with communities at an interpersonal level. I am aware that working for the City of Seattle can provide administration opportunities for employees to implement or influence the creation of new policies and programs. However, I am not sure if working for the City is the best route for me to help create those opportunities. I look forward to finding other internship or job opportunities that will help me develop and improve my skills in areas related to community development, engagement, and policy.
