Education has been an important part of my life and I am grateful to have learned that importance from my parents. As a proud daughter of Mexican immigrant parents, they did not get the opportunity to complete a formal education but understood the value, importance, and opportunities it can provide. Through my parents sacrifice and support I've been fortunate to find my interests and passions through my education. I believe that through me, my parents have been able to experience each milestone of my education as well. Therefore in this page I include some of my most memorable educational experiences during my time at the University of Washington.

center for communication, difference, and equity
Through the UW's Department of Communication I had the opportunity to participate in their Center for Communication, Difference, and Equity (CCDE) summer 2017 program called Community Engaged Scholarship: Conducting Research for Equity. In this two part course I examined the interconnectedness of power, privilege, and difference through academic-community partnerships and applied research. This included critiquing academic research methods when engaging with marginalized communities and applying research methodology when conducting field research in the Central District and Columbia City. This course introduced me to community based-research, the process for conducting research, and how to conduct research through a more equitable lens. Ultimately this program influenced the creation, scope, and focus of my senior project (visit CEP tab for more information)
Undergraduate research symposium
Another memorable moment was being able to present my senior project at the 21st Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium. I had the opportunity to present my research to different groups of people and really engage with visitors at an interpersonal level. It was another great way to wrap up my research and undergraduate experience.
